Baby Panda Zhen Zhen

>> Dec 31, 2008

Baby Zhen Zhen, originally uploaded by kjdrill.

Pandas are found predominantly in China, provided the same ecosystem they can thrive on any soil. They are one of the beautiful and delicate mammals found on earth unlike the "KungFu panda". But now they are on the verge of extinction.*sniff*
Worried about this factor, scientists have started monitoring the birth of baby pandas very closely. In the San Diego Zoo, scientists have successfully assisted the birth of a baby Panda(Zhen Zhen). Usually the litters are killed by the mothers, accidentally. But this time, they made sure that the baby panda is safe and grows properly.
The Panda was in the News since its mother was conceived. And here is a snapshot of the Baby panda.
How cute she is, isn't she!

Online nursing degree program made easy!

>> Dec 23, 2008

Hello ppl!

Ever since my childhood, I'm inspired by the patience and caring shown by the nurses towards the patients. The nursing job, i would say that as "service", is very pure and dedicated towards serving the humanity. I was inclined towards taking up nursing degree as soon as I finished my school. But due to lack of awareness about the nursing courses offered, I could do nothing but drop that dream and opt for a different walk of life. Had I had the oppurtunity then, I would have pursued my dream line.

But in this e-era, all are available with a click of a button! Yes, you guessed it right. Nursing degrees are offered on-line! There are numerous schools offering online degrees in nursing.
The various degrees offered online are
  • Associate in nursing
  • Bachelor in nursing
  • BSN
  • Master in Nursing
  • MSN degree
  • and many..
But the catch here, lies in selecting the best school that offers quality education online. For knowing all the best schools that offer online nursing degrees and their reputation in the industry, you must visit nursing degrees online site. The site offers unmatched quality reviews on the schools offering nursing degrees.
In every review, they furnish the complete history about the school, the nursing courses offered, the tuition fees and other aid facilities offered(if any) by the school.
Some of the popular schools in online nursing are
  • Jacksonville University
  • Kent State University
  • Gonzaga University
  • Grand Canyon University
  • Norwich University
  • A.T. Still University
  • Kaplan University
  • Liberty University
  • National American University

Have a look at the following link to know in detail about the various Online Nursing Schools.

Those who are already Registered Nurses (RN) look forward and upgrade to the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. BSN holders are in great demand than the RNs. They can get preference over the RNs and obviously paid well. So, don't delay, you can upgrade to BSN degree online which is the best option now. For more details: Online RN to BSN degree.

Online Nursing Degrees is the best place to get complete information about pursuing career in nursing.

I'll be happy if this post helped a single person in pursuing their goal in serving the humanity.
Good Luck!

Calvin and Hobbes

How many of you are aware of this lil' sooper-dooper intelligent boy!

The calvin!

I love this comic strip Calvin and Hobbes.

For those who are blinking like this:

Calvin and Hobbes is a famous comic strip by Bill Watterson. It was a great hit when it was published and still is a great hit till date.

Calvin is a six-year old mischievous, imaginative, mostly day-dreaming, "wise" boy! :) And Hobbes is his best friend. He sees him as live tiger, while others look at it as a stuffed animal toy.

He is the one who gives me smile every time i see him and make me ponder about the earthly views of this super-kid.

Eat this:

Thought for the Day-1

>> Dec 4, 2008

Starting from today, I'll be posting inspiring quotes, proverbs, famous sayings inspired me daily.Photobucket

Lemme start with a great Chinese quote.

Give a fish to a man; he has food for a day.
Teach a man to fish; he learns a skill for life.

Start teaching others, be it your friend, brother, sister, or your children. Teach them the right thing to do and assist them in learning new things about the world.

Regarding educating the children, just assist; do not do the whole thing by yourself! They should know how the fire will hurt them or how a wound will pain them. If you prevent them from everything, then when will they learn and lead a life on their own.

You need not only educate the children, there are many other people who doesn't know what a gravitational force is..? or how does a scooter/motor vehicle runs..? or how is electricity is produced..? You can educate these people at the right situation and kindle their curiosity in science.

So,start teaching others and lets make our country a zero-illiteracy zone.

World AIDS Day

>> Dec 1, 2008

Today is the WAD-2008.
Yeah, World AIDS Day is observed on the 1st December of every year. This is to educate people about the deadliest pandemic disease the world is confronting now.
All must be made aware of the spreading habits of the disease. This is also the right time to clear the myths about the disease and its spreading habits.

AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. But why it is called AIDS? Cuz, once someone acquires the disease, it first attacks the Immune System and destroys all the T-cells, which are responsible for the proper functioning of the Immune system, and makes us deficient in the WBCs. It is called Syndrome, because once AIDS nullifies the immune system, the body is prone to other diseases like Tubeculosis, Pneumonia and other deadly disease. The AIDS itself not a disease, but it paves the way for other disease to enter and attack the human body.

More info about AIDS can be gathered here.

The theme for this year's WAD is Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise - Lead - Empower - Deliver.

We as a responsible citizen must be aware thoroughly of the disease and its spreading methods. We must learn to handle the persons affected by this.

So, spread the word not the disease...! Keep The Promise.

The probe, painted with the Indian flag, crashed into the Moon's surface at 2034 (1504 GMT)

During its controlled plunge, it took readings including measurements of the composition of the Moon's atmosphere.

The mission is regarded as a major step for India as it seeks to keep pace with other space-faring nations in Asia.

The dropping of the Moon Impact Probe (MIP), weighing about 30kg, concludes the first phase of the mission.

During its descent from Chandrayaan 1, an onboard video camera transmitted lunar pictures to the ISRO command centre

Be Proud to be an Indian!!

India 's first space craft to Moon,3.84lakh km away.
India is the Nation to spend a spacecraft to moon.

The unmanned Chandrayaan 1 spacecraft blasted off smoothly from a launch pad in southern Andhra Pradesh to embark on a two-year mission of exploration.

The robotic probe will orbit the Moon, compiling a 3-D atlas of the lunar surface and mapping the distribution of elements and minerals.

The launch is regarded as a major step for India as it seeks to keep pace with other space-faring nations in Asia.

It was greeted with applause by scientists gathered at the site.

The BBC's Sanjoy Majumder in Delhi says there has been a lot of excitement about the event, which was broadcast live on national TV.

Competitive mission

One key objective will be to search for surface or sub-surface water-ice on the Moon, especially at the poles.

It will also be able detect Helium 3, an isotope which is rare on Earth, but is sought to power nuclear fusion and could be a valuable source of energy in future.

Powered by a single solar panel generating about 700 Watts, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) probe carries five Indian-built instruments and six that are foreign-built.

The mission is expected to cost 3.8bn rupees (£45m; $78m).

CHANDRAYAAN 1

1 - Chandrayaan Energetic Neutral Analyzer (CENA)
2 - Moon Impact Probe (MIP)
3 - Radiation Dose Monitor (RADOM)
4 - Terrain Mapping Camera (TMC)
5 - Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3)
6 - Chandrayaan 1 X-ray Spectrometer (C1XS)
7 - Solar Panel

The Indian experiments include a 30kg probe that will be released from the mothership to slam into the lunar surface.

The Moon Impact Probe (MIP) will record video footage on the way down and measure the composition of the Moon's tenuous atmosphere.

"Chandrayaan has a very competitive set of instruments... it will certainly do good science," said Barry Kellett, project scientist on the C1XS instrument, which was built at the Rutherford-Appleton Laboratory in the UK.

C1XS will map the abundance of different elements in the lunar crust to help answer key questions about the origin and evolution of Earth's only natural satellite.

Researchers say the relative abundances of magnesium and iron in lunar rocks could help confirm whether the Moon was once covered by a molten, magma ocean.

"The iron should have sunk [in the magma ocean], whereas the magnesium should have floated," Mr Kellett told BBC News.

"The ratio of magnesium to iron for the whole Moon tells you to what extent the Moon melted and what it did after it formed."

The instrument will look for more unusual elements on the Moon's surface, such as titanium. This metallic element has been found in lunar meteorites, but scientists know little about its distribution in the lunar crust.

Chandrayaan will also investigate the differences between the Moon's near side and its far side. The far side is both more heavily cratered and different in composition to the one facing Earth.

Infographic (BBC)

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket will loft Chandrayaan into an elliptical "transfer orbit" around Earth.

The probe will later carry out a series of engine burns to set it on a lunar trajectory.

The spacecraft coasts for about five-and-a-half days before firing the engine to slow its velocity such that it is captured by the Moon's gravity.

India, China, Japan and South Korea all have eyes on a share of the commercial satellite launch business and see their space programmes as an important symbol of international stature and economic development.

"Cutout Dissection.com, female, 19 yrs." - strange?

>> Oct 15, 2008

A 19 year old girl from Virginia, USA has changed her name to Cutout Dissection.com!! Strange to hear?? Read on..

The former
Jennifer Thornburg — whose driver’s license now reads Dissection.com, Cutout wanted to do something to protest animal dissections in schools. A snapshot of her license is shown below:

Her new name is also the
Web address for an anti-dissection page of the site for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA), where she is interning.
The Asheville High School graduate who's working in Virginia said she began opposing dissections in middle school after a class assignment to cut up a chicken wing made her uncomfortable. She helped create a policy at her high school that allows students who object to dissections to complete an alternative assignment.

Despite her legally changing the name, she said most of her family members still call her Jennifer(and it will take time and that's obvious!!).

She said that she normally do have to repeat her name several times when she is introducing herself to someone new. Once they find out what her name is, they want to know more about what the Web site is about.
Exclusive interview with her can be found here.

Interesting isn't it? Now, what have you done for animals?

Rapturous ganguly

The
Warrior Prince's announcement to retire from the International cricket has created a stir in the cricketing world. Before the commencement of the Bangaluru Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Sourav Ganguly addressed the media and called it quits.

Famous for his charging batting style and aggressive captaincy, he is one of the best cricketers that world has seen.
Though his professional career has been marred by several issues, he set those aside and has managed to bring laurels to India. Being axed from the Indian Team a year ago, he worked on his way to the Indian side and made a splendid comeback to the team.

Called affectionately as 'Dhadha' and 'Prince of Kolkatta' in the cricketing arena, his announcement has come as a great shock to his fan community. He is considered as one of the most successful captains of India.
Tasting Success
Given his poor performance in the recent times, he will not get a good time than this to announce his retirement! We have to console ourselves from the wordings "All good things have to come to an end"
Goodbye dhadha.

P.S: He will continue to entertain his fans in the IPL!!

Liver Transplant for 7 months child

>> Oct 10, 2008

THURSDAY, October 9, - In a unique surgery of its kind, Indian doctors at the Apollo Indraprastha Hospital in New Delhi have performed a successful liver transplant on a 7-month-old child.

Sivojit Paul was born with a condition called biliary atresia. In this condition there are no connections between the liver and the intestine. Therefore bile is not excreted and this can lead to a fatal condition. The only way out is to perform a liver transplant.

Sivojit, who is based in Kolkata, came to New Delhi two months ago with severe jaundice after a surgery to connect the liver and intestine failed in a Kolkata hospital. His mother Munmun Paul told reporters they were referred to Delhi by the Kolkata doctors.

Doctors at Apollo said they could not afford to wait because the child's condition was rapidly deteriorating. Generally liver transplants are not attempted until one year of age.

gastroenterologist Dr Anupam Sibal and his team found Sivojit's father Indranil Paul to be a fit donor. A part of his liver was taken to be transplanted into his son.

Biliary atresia is not a common condition. Only 1 out of 12,000 babies suffer from this condition, which cannot be treated unless a liver transplant is performed.

While doctors expect Sivojit to make a complete recovery and lead a normal life; he still has to take anti-rejection medicines all his life.

Stonehenge - Found to be a place of healing!!

>> Sep 29, 2008

Stonehenge, the prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire is in the newz recently. Archeologists Geoff and Tim exacavated the site and concluded that it drew ailing pilgrims from across Europe for their treatement.

They exacavated many human skelatal remains from the site and researched on that. The bones are either damaged or shown signs of injuries.

The ailing people considered this to be with healing powers andit cured their injuries!!
The archeologists beleive that the stonehenge was considered similar to Lourdes, France-a shrine venerated for its supposed ability to cure the sick.

Many skulls and other bones were recovered from the site. Careful study of the teeth patterns of the skulls showed about more than half of them are from outside the stonehenge area. They also recovered two skulls that showed evidence of primitive surgery.

Based on these evidences, what else can we conclude on the pre-historical site. It sure must have some healing properties. So, people the next time you visit the stonehenge, remember this and get yourself healed of your backaches and neck-stiffness.

The following is the site map of the stonehenge and it looks like a hospital or any other cinic.

Note the diameter is 108' and this reminds me of the potential in this number as it has connection with every Indian religious proceedings.
Hmmm...*skeptical*. ;-|

Moon halo

>> Sep 12, 2008

Did u notice the night sky on Friday(12-sep-08)?
The sky was clear and the moon was unusually bright and it had a bright big ring around it.
Yes, you read it right!
Moon had a ring around it, and i was excited to see it.

I was pondering over the cause for such a rare phenomenon. I googled for it and came to know that its called moon halo and the explanation for the same is as follows:

Moon halos are caused by tiny ice crystals that have gathered twenty thousand feet above the ground, as thin, wispy clouds. These clouds are so thin, you might not notice them at night, if it weren't for their effect on the moonlight. Incoming light rays from the moon are bent--or "diffracted"--by these ice crystals at an angle of twenty-two degrees. This means that in addition to the direct moonlight, you will also see diffracted moonlight in a circle twenty-two degrees away from the moon. Like a rainbow, this halo can even be slightly colored; red on the inside, and blue on the outside.
For more info about moon halo, click here.

And here is the interesting part:
sight.
Actually, a halo in winter doesn't have absolute significance; but during the warmer months, it usually foretells the coming of a thickening of warm air overhead; in most cases, a long, slow rain should eventually arrive in about 12 to 18 hours!!

Wow, thats indeed a great news !!

Dhoni good but Sachin is Best

>> Sep 11, 2008

Mahendra Singh Dhoni may have pipped Sachin Tendulkar to the ICC ODI Player of the Year award but Adam Gilchrist believes the Little Master is still the best batsman around.

Here on a promotional tour, Gilchrist said he does not doubt Dhoni's ability but Tendulkar is simply the best.

"Well, it's hard to compare whether statistically or in your mind or opinion. It's a big award for Mahendra to win but I would still say Sachin is the best player of recent times," Gilchrist said.

Making a comparative study of both the Indians, Gilchrist said, "Dhoni is firepower, (it's more about) his explosiveness and unpredictability. If there is anything about Sachin, it's his technicality, he is beautiful to watch and clinical whereas Dhoni is almost carefree, playing without fear that can hurt you most.

"He (Dhoni) hits some extraordinary shots that are quite unique to the game. You never see them in text books but are equally effective," said the Australian.

Gilchrist was also against rushing Dhoni into the Test captain's job even though he felt it was just a matter of time before the star stumper takes over the reins from Anil Kumble.

"Well, his time will come I believe," Gilchrist said. "There is no need to rush him in, I'm sure it's just a matter of time. He looks to me like the top character who can handle both Test and one-day captaincy, and the wicket-keeping and batting roles and the many, many sponsors he has," Gilchrist quipped.
